ROLE OVERVIEW

A leading Chrome Ore Producer is seeking an experienced and dedicated Plant Maintenance Foreman to oversee the day-to-day mechanical and electrical maintenance of its chromite processing plant , situated approximately 90km East of Polokwane / 65km West of Burgersfort . The successful candidate will manage a team of artisans and ensure the continuous and efficient operation of critical fixed plant equipment in support of the companys underground mining and mineral refining operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the plant maintenance team, including mechanical and electrical artisans.
  • Lead fault-finding efforts and oversee emergency and planned maintenance interventions.
  • Ensure the plant operates with minimum downtime by implementing proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Mentor and develop team members, identifying training needs and performance gaps.

Processing Plant Equipment Oversight

  • Maintain and repair critical chromite processing equipment including crushers, vibrating screens, spiral concentrators, ball mills, slurry pumps, conveyors , and dewatering systems.
  • Manage and monitor systems such as VSDs, PLCs, MCCs , and plant-wide instrumentation.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections and ensure adherence to OEM specifications and asset care standards.

    • Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture through regular toolbox talks, risk assessments, and enforcement of SOPs.
  • Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) , environmental regulations, and site-specific procedures.
  • Support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.

    • Collaboration & Reporting

  • Coordinate closely with the underground maintenance and production teams to align plant performance with mine output.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance record-keeping, CMMS updates, and availability of critical spares.
  • Prepare and submit daily and weekly maintenance reports, highlighting plant performance trends and maintenance KPIs.

    • REQUIREMENTS

  • Red Seal Trade Test Qualification as Electrical Artisan or Millwright .
  • Minimum 10 years'''' experience in a mining or mineral processing environment, with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity .
  • Strong experience in chrome or PGM processing will be advantageous.
  • Deep technical knowledge of chromite plant processes , electrical control systems (PLCs / VSDs), and high-voltage maintenance.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and electrical diagrams .
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to relocate or travel to site daily.
