Senior Safety Officer

SUMMARY :

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Senior Safety Officer to join our team on a mining project. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in mining operations and in-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and all relevant mining safety regulations.

POSITION INFO : Job Specification

We are looking for a Senior Safety Officer with a strong mining background to drive our health and safety culture across operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining compliance with mine health and safety standards and legislation. You will play a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture and ensuring the wellbeing of all personnel on site. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations and implementing proactive risk mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

Implement and manage policies, procedures, and programs specific to the mining environment.

Conduct daily inspections, audits, and risk assessments in underground and surface operations.

Lead incident investigations, compile detailed reports, and implement corrective and preventative actions.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety performance and culture.

Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other regulatory requirements.

Prepare and present safety reports to site and senior management.

Coordinate with DMR officials and support inspections or audits as required.

Attend / Chair Internal, and Client Meetings

Qualifications / Requirements

National Diploma / Degree in Safety Management or equivalent

Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in a safety role within the mining sector (preferably underground).

In-depth knowledge of the MHSA and relevant mining regulations.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Strong auditing and report-writing capabilities.
