SACAP is seeking a Student Wellness Advisor (Disability Support) based at our Cape Town Campus.
This is a permanent position.
This role will provide comprehensive support services to students with disabilities and learning barriers.
This role involves assessing student needs, developing individualized support plans, and coordinating faculty and staff to ensure an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
The advisor will also provide counselling and advocacy to promote student well-being and academic success.
This position will closely liaise with the Disability Committee, Student Support Teams, Student Administration and Academic teams.
Duties include but are not limited to : Conduct initial assessments to determine the specific needs of students with disabilities.Develop and implement individualised support plans in collaboration with students, faculty, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective support.Enhanced student well-being and academic success.Protection of student rights and legal compliance.Seamless implementation of concessions and accommodations.Increased awareness and inclusivity on campus.Proper documentation and confidentiality.Continuous improvement of support services.Knowledgeable and up-to-date advisor.Active contribution to an inclusive campus environment.As well as general student support services QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES A minimum bachelor's degree in counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field.Minimum of 2 years of experience in disability support services, counselling, or a related field.Relevant certifications in counselling (HPCSA registration) or disability support are a plus.Experience working in a higher education setting.Knowledge of mental health issues and resources.Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution. Skills Strong understanding of disability laws and regulations (e.g., ADA, Section ).Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to develop and implement individualised support plans.Strong organisational and time-management skills.Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities.Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.Proficiency in using assistive technologies and software.
