Role Summary
The Audiology Technician is responsible for conducting basic hearing tests, assisting with AI-driven diagnostic procedures, and ensuring a smooth, respectful patient experience. This position supports the early detection of hearing loss and integrates with broader diagnostic services such as radiology and general practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hearing assessments including pure-tone audiometry, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and tympanometry
- Prepare patients for hearing tests and explain procedures in clear, accessible language
- Educate patients on basic hearing health and preventative practices (e.g. noise protection)
- Assist with AI-supported diagnostics (e.g., dual fluorescence oral imaging), with training provided
- Calibrate and maintain audiology equipment (e.g. audiometers, OAE devices) to ensure accuracy
- Provide compassionate care and guide patients throughout the testing process
- Collaborate with general practitioners, radiological technologists, and optometric technicians
- Schedule appointments and manage patient flow
- Monitor stock of audiology supplies and assist with inventory
- Adhere to hygiene and diagnostic quality standards aligned with national health protocols
Qualifications
Qualifications Required :
Certificate or Diploma in Health Sciences, Hearing Aid Acoustics, or a related field from a South African institution accredited by HWSETATraining in preliminary hearing tests (e.g., audiometry, OAE, tympanometry) is essentialExperience
1-2 years of experience in audiology, hearing aid dispensing, or allied health settings preferredProven ability to perform hearing tests and maintain audiology equipmentExperience with AI-supported diagnostic tools is advantageous (training provided)Skills
