Responsibilities

• Planning, design and contract administration of engineering and building projects from inception to completion.
• Preparing engineering calculations.
• Preparing project and technical specifications.
• Providing input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
• Assisting with managing and quality checking deliverables.
• Managing a team of structural resources, including resource scheduling and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Reviewing and evaluating technical work prepared by junior and intermediate engineers and contributing to the professional development of unregistered technical staff.
• Preparing tender documents.
• Preparing reports (Project Inception, Concept and Viability, Detail Design, tender evaluation, progress, financial, close‑out, etc.).
• Day‑to‑day contract administration and management of the structural works of building and engineering projects.
• Handling technical queries and resolutions and leading site and technical meetings on site, including taking minutes.
• Communicating frequently with all professionals and clients.
• Handling dispute resolutions in conjunction with others.
• Assisting with project safety and environmental matters during construction.
• General office and project‑related administration.
• Assist with fee proposals for new projects.

Qualifications

At least a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering.

Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.

At least 5 years’ verifiable post‑registration experience in the planning, design and contract administration of building and engineering projects from inception to completion.

Strong background in the design of structures associated with bulk water management, water treatment works, stormwater management, water retaining, earth retaining, road infrastructure (culverts and bridges), control buildings and warehouses is advantageous.

Experience managing design teams and delivering high‑quality deliverables such as design calculations, drawings, schedules and reports on time and within budget.

Proficient in the use of MasterSeries, Prokon or Robot analysis software, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.

Experience with BIM software (ACC Docs, ACC Build, Revit, parametric modelling software and Python programming) is advantageous.

Must have strong client focus and be an effective communicator (personal, phone, writing, email).

Own vehicle and valid driver’s license.
