BI and Data Manager Role Summary
This is a senior position seeking a BI and Data Manager to lead a data strategy, transforming raw data into actionable intelligence to support business objectives. The role is for a leading iGaming and retail betting company licensed in South Africa and Kenya, which focuses on leveraging data-driven insights to enhance customer engagement, optimise operations, and drive growth. The position is based in KZN and allows for a hybrid work arrangement or remote from wider South Africa
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy and Governance : Develop a comprehensive data strategy aligned with business objectives, focusing on scalability and security, and establish governance frameworks to ensure data quality and compliance with regulations like POPIA
- Architecture & Management : Design and maintain scalable database systems, optimize their performance for high-volume transactional data, and implement data integration pipelines to consolidate data from multiple sources
- BI and Analysis : Build and manage BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to deliver real-time dashboards and reports, develop iGaming-specific KPIs, and perform advanced data analysis to uncover trends, customer behaviours, and market opportunities
- Predictive Analytics : Develop and deploy models using machine learning to forecast customer behaviour, revenue trends, predict player churn, and project betting volumes
- Automation : Design and implement automated data pipelines using ETL tools to streamline data collection, processing, and report generation
- Compliance : Ensure all practices comply with South African data protection laws and gaming regulations, implementing robust security measures to protect sensitive data
Required Experience and Skills
Candidates must have 5+ years of experience in data management or BI, with proven success in a high-volume, customer-facing industry like iGaming or betting.
Technical Expertise : Advanced proficiency in SQL is mandatory. Experience is required in programming languages like Python or R, cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud), big data technologies, and BI tools (Tableau, Power BI)Strategic & Analytical Skills : Must be able to translate complex data into actionable business strategies, focusing on identifying root causes and opportunities.Industry Knowledge : A solid understanding of iGaming dynamics, including player behaviour, market trends, and familiarity with South African data privacy laws (POPIA) are keyThe position offers competitive pay, performance-based incentives, and a chance to lead the data strategy for a rising industry company
