Job Overview
We are expanding. We are seeking an experienced and detail‑oriented Attorney to join our team, specializing in the administration of deceased estates. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of independently managing all aspects of estate administration, from reporting the estate to the Master’s Office to final distribution and accounting.
This role requires a high level of legal knowledge, procedural efficiency, client empathy, and familiarity with the requirements of the Master’s Office and relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full administration of deceased estates.
- Reporting estates to the Master of the High Court.
- Preparing and lodging all required documentation.
- Engaging with executors, heirs, and financial institutions.
- Drafting Liquidation and Distribution (L&D) accounts.
- Attending to objections, advertisements, and approvals from the Master.
- Facilitating asset transfers and final distributions.
- Providing regular client updates and ensuring compliance with deadlines.
- Handling correspondence with SARS, the Deeds Office, and financial institutions.
- Maintaining accurate records and estate files.
- Supervising junior staff or candidate attorneys where necessary.
- Staying current with legislative and regulatory developments relevant to estate administration.
Minimum Requirements
Admitted Attorney in South Africa.Minimum of 5 years post‑admission experience specifically in deceased estates.Solid knowledge of the Administration of Estates Act, Wills Act, Intestate Succession Act, and related legislation.Experience dealing with the Master’s Office, SARS, and financial institutions.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong client service orientation.Ability to manage multiple estates efficiently and independently.Seniority Level
