Purpose of this role
The National Health and Safety Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s health and safety programs across all national DC’s. This role ensures compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, promotes a culture of safety, and reduces occupational risks for employees and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities / accountabilities
Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993, as well as other applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Develop and implement national health and safety policies and SOPs for all warehousing activities.
Plan and deliver health and safety training, including induction, fire safety, emergency response, manual handling, and hazardous material management.
Conduct site-specific risk assessments and implement risk control measures.
Ensure that all warehouse sites have up-to-date emergency response plans, fire evacuation procedures, and first aid provisions.
Compile monthly health and safety reports for senior management, highlighting trends, incidents, and recommendations.
Liaise with local authorities, contractors, insurance providers, and regulatory bodies during inspections and compliance checks.
