If you have a strong background in underwriting in the short term insurance or reinsurance industry, then Hannover Re South Africa with offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, has just the role for you.See more details related to the role below, which is available on a permanent full-time basis.ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting Treaty : Reinsurance underwriting functions; accurate use of rating tools, capturing of treaty information, monitoring results of each contract in the portfolio, and employing corrective actions; attending broker / cedent meetings; acquiring new profitable business.Claims : Accurate and timely analyses of claims received on a daily basis; managing the entire process for the relevant portfolio assigned within the procedures and guidelines; referring all contentious claims to the Manager and / or Legal & Compliance Officer; raising necessary reserves.Client Relationship Management and Marketing : Familiarization with the marketing strategy and program of the unit and Company; developing an annual marketing plan and interacting regularly with clients.Technical Accounts : Using client relationships to assist the Treaty Accounting Services unit with any queries they might have on particular accounts.Administration : Accurate capturing of all relevant treaty information, filing, file audits, liaising with Treaty Accounting Services to ensure that accounts are up to date and that cash is timeously being paid to us as per treaty agreements.Stakeholder Management : Effectively communicate with the immediate team as well as the wider Treaty and business units, managing relationships with the direct Manager, Senior Management, Underwriting Managing Agencies, and Home office.Minimum RequirementsYou come equipped with : Undergraduate degree in business and / or commercial or insurance.Minimum 5 – 10 years' experience in the short term insurance industry.Experience in specialist line(s) in Property and Casualty underwriting with a focus on engineering, marine, or property.Working knowledge of underwriting principles, financial knowledge, and analytical experience.Proven track record in initiating and following through on projects and dealing with national and international clients (special focus on the African continent).Strong technical skills and problem-solving skills.Ability to critically assess and review own work and work independently.Attention to detail for accurate work and accountability for deliverables within the scope of work.Reinsurance experience is an advantage.Proficient in English (speak, read, write).Intermediate level MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint required; beginner level Access and SQL is an advantage.Employment EquityEmployment Equity South African Citizens, as qualified by the Employment Equity Act, will be given preference in relation to the company's Employment Equity Plan.
