KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up, operate, and monitor slitting machines to cut rolls of printed or unprinted packaging material (e.g., film, paper, foil) to required widths and lengths.
- Select appropriate blades, tension settings, and operating speeds according to job specifications.
- Load jumbo rolls and ensure correct alignment to prevent material wastage.
Quality Control
Inspect material for print accuracy, color consistency, registration, and surface defects before and during slitting.Ensure finished rolls meet customer and internal quality standards, including width, edge finish, core size, and roll diameter.Complete quality checks and record results as per company QC procedures (ISO / FSSC where applicable).Material Handling & Storage
Label, weigh, palletize, and safely store finished rolls according to customer or production requirements.Handle raw materials and finished products to prevent contamination or damage (important in food-grade packaging environments).Maintain accurate records of material usage and scrap generated.Maintenance & Machine Care
Perform basic machine maintenance, blade changes, lubrication, and cleaning.Report mechanical issues or faults to maintenance teams to minimize downtime.Ensure all machine guards and safety systems are in place and functional.Safety & Compliance
Adhere to workplace safety procedures, including lockout / tagout, PPE requirements, and safe lifting practices.Follow industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., SANS, HACCP / FSSC 22000 where applicable).Maintain a clean and safe working area to prevent accidents and contamination.Productivity & Efficiency
Monitor production output to achieve daily / shift targets.Minimize waste through careful setup, material handling, and continuous process improvement.Communicate production status, delays, and efficiency concerns to supervisors or production planners.Documentation & Reporting
Complete production records, job cards, waste sheets, and traceability documentation.Assist with stock reporting and ensure correct material identification (barcodes / roll labels).Participate in shift handovers with clear communication of job progress.REQUIREMENTS
