Associate Professor : Information Technology (Re-advertisement)

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum development, supervision of postgraduate students, lecturing and involvement in research in the related field of Computer Science and Information Technology and running the day-to-day affairs of the IT Department. The responsibilities also include providing academic leadership in specific areas of Computer Science and Information Technology, administration and management of subject tuition and management of staff members assigned to the department / Research Projects.

The appointed person will also support faculty research initiatives by undertaking research that contributes to the faculty's strategic objectives. The candidate will also be responsible for raising the standard of scholarship and research in the Department of Information Technology by initiating research projects in the field, providing mentorship for junior staff members, and supervising postgraduate students up to the doctoral level. In addition, the incumbent will perform all academic functions, including teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising students, community engagement, curriculum development, academic administration, and conducting research.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A relevant Doctoral Degree in Computer Science and / or Information Technology (The candidate must have obtained all undergraduate underpinning qualifications within the field of study)
  • At least six (6) years of teaching experience in Higher Education
  • A track record of successful supervision of Master’s and Doctoral students to completion within the IT Domain
  • A track record of publications in accredited journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings over the last five years

  • A record of examining Master’s or Doctoral work

  • Lectures subjects within the field of Computer Science / Information Technology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Provide academic leadership in the department
  • Be involved in curriculum design and development at Department or Faculty level
  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
  • Participate in research and research capacity building
  • Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into curriculum
  • Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co-operative education, new techniques / technologies, and research projects
  • Provide support for Work-integrated learning and monitoring
  • Risk management and related activities
  • Assist with marketing and recruitment activities
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
