Job Description : Automation Engineer

Location :  Durbanville, Cape Town

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Automation Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems across a variety of industries . This role requires a hands-on professional with the ability to adapt to different technologies, processes, and environments.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for new and existing systems.

Conduct fault-finding, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis on automation equipment.

Program, configure, and commission PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and related control systems.

Work with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements and integrate automation technologies.

Ensure systems are compliant with safety standards and operational requirements.

Support continuous improvement initiatives and optimize system performance.

Provide technical support, training, and documentation for end-users and clients.

Manage automation projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent).

Minimum of 5  years experience in automation engineering, preferably across multiple industries (manufacturing, industrial, process, logistics, etc.).

Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, or similar).

Experience with SCADA, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet / IP, OPC, etc.).

Strong understanding of instrumentation, sensors, and control systems.

Exposure to robotics, motion control, or vision systems is advantageous.

Project management skills, including cost estimation, scheduling, and client liaison.
