YACHT DESIGN ENGINEER

SUMMARY

IN-HOUSE YACHT DESIGNER / ENGINEER - CAPE TOWN

Our client is a GRP power boat construction company, specialising in high-performance, foils supported ferries and live‑aboard charter vessels.

They have a small team of designers and undertake all their own design work in‑house.

We are looking for an experienced Yacht Designer to join their dynamic team.

POSITION INFO

The ideal candidate will have a history in yacht or vessel detail design, demonstrate a keen eye for detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.

You will be responsible for detail component design from concept design through to producing shop‑floor drawing.

Preferred areas of competence will include structural and laminate design and system and deck equipment design.

You will report to the Technical and play a role in developing the team and maintaining their reputation for excellence.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Degree or diploma in Yacht Design, or Structural Engineering
• Experience in small‑boat and yacht component design with a solid portfolio showcasing your work will be advantageous
• Proficiency in 2D CAD drawing (AutoCAD or similar) and 3D CAD modelling (Preferably Rhino 3D)
• Attention to detail and strong analytical, problem‑solving with organisational skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Familiarity with the yachting and boating industry, with a passion for innovative design
• Develop innovative component designs for power‑boat projects from concept to completion, including mechanical systems, deck layouts and equipment and GRP structural analysis
• Work closely with clients to understand and realise their vision, managing relationships with professionalism and empathy
• Develop design concepts, produce accurate detailed 3D models and 2D working drawings for the shopfloor to company standards
