Job description

Job Title : Residence Cluster Manager

Location : Johannesburg, ZA

Organization : Campus Housing and Residence Life Department

Overview

The University is seeking an experienced manager to take full operational responsibility for a group of large student residences. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Campus Housing and Residence Life, the Residence Cluster Manager will be required to take general managerial responsibility for eight student residences, assisted by Residence Administrative Officers, Housekeepers, and part-time Residence Wardens. He / she will also be required to act as the Senior Warden of his / her cluster, and as such will be required to reside on campus and to be available 24 / 7 in cases of emergency.

Key Requirements and Responsibilities

  • A university degree, preferably postgraduate.
  • At least 5 years of managerial experience (including the management of staff) and experience in budgeting and general financial management.
  • Experience in crisis management, including dealing with students in crisis.
  • Experience in dealing with students and elected student representatives, and in conflict resolution.
  • Comprehensive insight into diversity and gender issues.
  • The ability to develop and to promote effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, including the Operations and Facilities Department (responsible for catering, cleaning, and transport), Campus Protection Services, and the Occupational Health and Safety office.
  • Adequate knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures, and an understanding of by laws pertaining to residential accommodation and related services.
  • A high level of computer literacy and significant knowledge of computer systems and technology, including the University's SIMS system or PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, or similar residence / student management software, or any residence or hotel management or administration system.
  • Strong communication and human relationship skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines under occasionally stressful conditions.
  • Well‑developed critical, analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
