Interwaste, a leader in waste management solutions across Southern Africa, is seeking a seasoned Site Manager to join the East London branch. With a commitment to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence, Interwaste is dedicated to transforming waste challenges into opportunities.

Role Overview

Manage the entire waste management operation according to the contract SLA, client scope of work and work specification, while complying with the company standards and policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • On-site leadership for staff and equipment; ensure team performs to contract standards.
  • Daily inspections to maintain high-standard work per contract specifications.
  • Monitor attendance, labour allocation, absenteeism, and replacements as needed.
  • Ensure correct staffing levels per shift in line with contract SLA.
  • Manage overtime and ensure compliance with client policies.
  • Implement and manage SOPs and controls consistently.
  • Compile service and collection schedules; control equipment per asset policies.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are in good working order and legally compliant.
  • Manage recyclable off-takes and conduct regular audits for legal compliance.
  • Oversee storage areas and ensure proper handling, labelling, and disposal per SOPs and laws.
  • Attend client meetings and produce accurate detailed reports by due date.
  • Report weekly to Interwaste Depot Manager on waste collections and recycling targets.
  • Manage data capture and paperwork for invoicing; liaise with Depot Manager for supplies and hazardous waste collections.
  • Ensure safe disposal certificates and daily client satisfaction and communication.
  • Address daily messages and complaints promptly; perform general office administration.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Comply with health & safety requirements per company OHS policies; operate within ISO14000 and client requirements; uphold SHEQ policies.
  • Maintain and implement the SHEQ site file.
  • PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain discipline per disciplinary code; address grievances.
  • Manage engagements, pay rate changes, dismissals; ensure required documents.
  • Check wage input and submit monthly for authorization; follow updated submission frequency as needed.
  • Ensure staff are adequately trained per SLA and OSHA requirements.
  • COMMUNICATION AND FEEDBACK

  • Notify superiors promptly on relevant matters; handle incidents, complaints, staffing changes with management.
  • Keep manager informed of all staff matters affecting the organisation.
  • FINANCE

  • Manage stock requisitions and plan replacements; aim to reduce costs, lead times, waste, and accidents.
  • Regulate labour costs; avoid exceeding labour budget without authority.
  • MENTORSHIP AND SKILLS TRANSFERENCE

  • Upskill subordinates; provide training and mentorship; support new employees.
  • ADHOC

  • Perform reasonable ad hoc duties as required; roles may expand to cover workload during peak periods.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Hazardous chemicals handling knowledge; regulatory awareness for wastewater treatment and disposal.
  • Supervision, training, performance evaluation; lab sampling and interpretation.
  • Budget control, software for waste treatment plants, basic accounting, safety practices.
  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • 3–5 years in a similar role
