New World Foundation is seeking to recruit two voluntary board members to serve on the Board and its Subcommittees. The role involves custodianship of the Foundation’s work, impact, sustainability, and values by actively participating in governance and leadership.
Location : Cape Town, Lavender Hill (South Africa)

Compensation : Volunteer
Time Commitment
- The Board meets four times per year for approximately three hours each.
- The Sub‑committees meet two to four times per year for two hours as required.
- Board members should dedicate at least 1.5 hours to prepare for each meeting by reviewing the meeting pack.
- Meetings can be attended in person or virtually.
Roles and Responsibilities
Annually revise and approve, in consultation with the Director, the strategic objectives for the upcoming year.Monitor the Foundation’s progress toward achieving these objectives.Monitor the Director’s activities and ensure operational policies are followed in accordance with the constitution.Participate in decision‑making around policies and financial implications, ensuring adherence to the constitution.Serve on one Sub‑Committee (e.g., Audit, Risk and Sustainability Committee).Market the Foundation to potential donors.Exercise leadership, enterprise, integrity, and judgement to achieve continuing impact and sustainability.Exhibit good faith, honesty, and integrity in all dealings on behalf of the Foundation.Act independently of outside instructions.Express disagreements with board colleagues, including the Chairperson and Director, when necessary.Qualifications and Requirements
Academic & applied research : experience in community development, stakeholder engagement, commerce, marketing or law, with intellectual leadership for the Foundation’s agenda.Finance & risk : sound understanding of overseeing finance and risk in organizations.Fundraising : ability to advise on and oversee fundraising strategies aligned with organizational priorities.Strategic communications & public engagement : ability to advise on media relations, digital strategy, and thought‑leadership initiatives.Governance : prior board experience in NGOs or relevant sectors preferred.Application
