Job Description
The Head of Faculty (Education) provides strategic leadership, academic direction, and operational oversight of the Faculty of Education. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring academic excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all programmes within the Faculty. This role requires a dynamic and visionary leader who can balance strategic planning with hands-on academic management, fostering a culture of innovation, research, and institutional growth within a distance learning context.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and academic leadership to the Faculty of Education, aligning operations with the College’s vision and academic strategy.
- Oversee programme development, quality assurance, and curriculum enhancement to ensure compliance with CHE, DHET, and SAQA requirements.
- Lead and manage academic and administrative staff, including Programme Coordinators, WIL Coordinators, and Independent Contractors.
- Drive a culture of research and scholarly engagement among faculty members.
- Ensure integrity in assessment and examination processes, including moderation and verification of graduands.
- Contribute to the institution’s strategic planning and governance structures, serving on Senate and relevant academic committees.
- Promote student success and engagement, ensuring that appropriate academic support systems are in place.
- Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and faculty performance reporting.
Requirements
Qualifications and Requirements
A postgraduate qualification in Education Management, Higher Education, or a related field.A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) is preferred. If not complete at the time of appointment, it must be completed as a term of employment.Demonstrated expertise in educational management, training and development, and academic leadership within higher education or training environments.Proven ability to manage curriculum design, quality assurance, and compliance processes.Accreditation as an Assessor, Moderator, or Facilitator will be advantageous.Membership of a recognised professional body in education, training, or management will be an added advantage.Experience
Minimum of three years’ experience in academic leadership within a higher education institution.Proven experience in programme accreditation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.Demonstrated experience in research leadership, scholarly publication, and staff development.Prior experience in distance learning or blended education is preferred.Skills and Competencies
