Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to design, analyse, and oversee safe, cost-effective structural solutions for building and infrastructure projects. You will collaborate closely with architects, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and detailed design for buildings and infrastructure (steel, concrete, masonry, timber, and composite systems as applicable).
- Produce and review design calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
- Model and document designs using industry software (Revit, AutoCAD, Prokon) and MS Office (Word, Excel).
- Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations; prepare rational designs where applicable.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and technical audits; prepare inspection reports and snag lists.
- Coordinate with architects, quantity surveyors, contractors, and other engineers to resolve design and site queries.
- Participate in design reviews, value engineering, and constructibility assessments.
- Support tender documentation, BOQs, technical clarifications, and contractor RFI responses.
- Provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle; contribute to quality assurance processes.
- Manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment and proactively escalate risks or constraints.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.Professional Registration with ECSA (required).6–10+ years’ proven structural engineering experience.Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Prokon, MS Word, and MS Excel.Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.Preferred / Advantageous
Experience across multiple project types (commercial, residential, industrial, or public infrastructure).Knowledge of South African standards and common international codes (e.g., SANS, Eurocode, BS / ASCE).Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary BIM workflows.Exposure to construction monitoring, site supervision, and contractor management.N.B.
