Inpatient Pharmacy Manager
About The Opportunity
A healthcare services and hospital pharmacy management role supporting international inpatient care projects. This is an on‑site leadership position based in South Africa responsible for running safe, compliant, and efficient inpatient pharmacy operations that service a Mangalore, Karnataka clinical project.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day inpatient pharmacy operations : oversee dispensing, clinical medication review, discharge medication workflows, and medication reconciliation.
- Ensure medication safety and regulatory compliance across inpatient services by implementing SOPs, conducting audits, and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Manage end-to-end inventory and procurement : forecast demand, control expiries, optimise stock levels, and oversee controlled‑substance handling.
- Deploy and maintain pharmacy technology : supervise Pharmacy Information Systems and automated dispensing units; drive data‑driven stock and usage reporting.
- Recruit, train and mentor pharmacy staff; create rosters, implement competency development and lead performance reviews.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, procurement and external vendors to resolve medication issues, implement formulary decisions and lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have
Registered Pharmacist with valid South African registration or eligibility to register with the South African Pharmacy Council.Proven experience managing hospital / inpatient pharmacy operations with responsibility for clinical and supply chain functions.Strong knowledge of medication safety, controlled substances handling, and hospital formulary processes.Experience with Pharmacy Information Systems and electronic medication records.Hands‑on experience managing inventory, procurement cycles and expiry reduction strategies.Demonstrated people‑management experience : staffing, rostering and performance development.Preferred
Experience with automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) and integration with HIS.Familiarity with South African regulatory frameworks and SAHPRA guidance for hospital pharmacies.Previous exposure to international site management or cross‑border pharmacy projects (India–South Africa collaborations).Benefits & Culture Highlights
