Core Purpose of Job
The Director : Supply Chain Management (SCM) will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the SCM system, and for the oversight and management of overall supply chain operations, including demand, acquisition, logistics, disposal, performance and risk management. The role is also responsible for reviewing the supply chain’s performance and for making recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Performance Areas
- Providing strategic leadership for all supply chain related activities at Nelson Mandela University
- Providing guidance to internal and external stakeholders relating to supply chain management in compliance with Supply Chain Management Policy
- Managing, controlling and overseeing all functions reporting into Supply Chain Management (procurement, stores, goods receiving, logistics, contract management)
- Managing and controlling the procurement of all commodities in terms of the Supply Chain Management Policy
- Monitoring strategic spend
- Establishing and overseeing supply chain specification and evaluation committees in terms of the Supply Chain Management Policy
- Managing all staff within the supply chain department and assisting with strategy in terms of BBBEE spend
- Developing and overseeing the Supply Chain Management system
- Continuous review of legislation, regulation, policies and procedures relating to Supply Chain Management
- Preparing clear, correct and complete documentation for presentation at the Tender Adjudication Committee
Core Competencies
A good understanding of Supply Chain Management including procurement, goods receiving, logistics, stores and contract managementUnderstanding of e‑business / e‑procurement systemsAbility to solve problems and advise on principles of good corporate governance; up‑to‑date knowledge of supply chain and procurement matters in the industry (constitutional requirements, National Treasury regulations)Understanding of the legal matters relating to management of suppliers and contracts, ability to apply and improve policies, procedures and systemsKnowledge of BBBEE and PPPFAExcellent computer skills in MS Word, Excel; ability to compile value‑added reportsExcellent skills in communication, leadership, judgement, decision making, strategic management, negotiation, analytical and problem solvingManaging, developing and directing staffAbility to work under pressure and meet strict deadlinesMust have a high degree of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality and attention to detailRequirements
