C40s team of 400 staff is based in offices in London in New York Johannesburg Singapore Delhi Rio de Janeiro Copenhagen Beijing and Paris and individual staff based across 25 different locations.

The strategic direction of the organisation is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors which is chaired by Mayor Sadiq Khan of London and Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr of Freetown. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the C40 Board of Directors responsible for operational oversight. A regionally diverse management team led by Executive Director Mark Watts leads the day-to-day management of C40. C40s three core strategic funders are Bloomberg Philanthropies the Childrens Investment Fund Foundation and Realdania.

Our international staff work with the C40 network under the leadership of city governments to deliver this mission. Using a data-driven approach our team identifies and promotes the exchange of proven programmes and policies developed by cities; provides world-class research technical expertise and access to key partners to deliver new programmes and policies with cities; and communicates cities individual achievements and collective leadership.

Department Description

The C40 Corporate Services department serves as the non-programmatic support mechanism to the global organisation to ensure efficiency of day-to-day business practices. The team works collaboratively with C40 senior management and staff

in providing support and guidance in human resources information technology grants management budgeting accounting and other administrative functions in accordance with C40s internal policies procedures and donor regulations.

Position Description

The Senior Finance Manager - Operations will report to C40s Head of Finance Operations and Compliance based in South Africa. This role will work closely with the Senior Financial Accountant and other members of the finance team to build relationships across the business and to provide quality financial information. The successful candidate will also work as the Financial Controller.

Responsibilities :

• Drive continuous improvement in operational finance processes including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable with a key role in implementing a new finance system in 2026.
• Ensure accurate and timely recording of invoices and expense claims in Concur.
• Monitor the Finance inbox and Slack channels to manage business requests promptly.
• Lead the weekly payment run for all suppliers ensuring banking information is collated and recorded per the Finance Manual.
• Post all bank transactions and ensure accurate payment recording in Sun.
• Assist in new system implementations policy updates and other organizational projects and tasks including the rollout of a new purchase order system.
• Line Management of the Finance Assistants and Officers based in the UK and South Africa
• Manage foreign currency bank accounts.
• Monitor foreign exchange rates and inter entity fund transfers as needed minimising fx exposure.
• Prepare and analyse foreign currency exposure reports.
• Provide ad hoc financial information upon request.
• Collaborate within a diverse team supporting a global organization.

Salary : (Grade 3) ZARgross per annum - Due to its commitment to maintain equity and fairness C40 operates on a spot salary model. This means that our employees are paid the same salary according to their grade and location.
