Job description

A leading manufacturing company in Cape Town is looking for a Junior Engineer  in the plastics and packaging industry .

The successful candidate will support production processes and engineering projects to ensure efficient operations and the manufacture of high-quality products.

Position : Junior Engineer

Location : Philippi, Western Cape

Direct Report : Production Manager

Requirements :

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • 2–5 years’ engineering experience in a production / manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, fault-finding, and equipment testing
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Proficient in relevant software and administrative processes
  • Effective problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high level of attention to detail
  • Passion for sustainable packaging solutions and environmental awareness

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical process support for start-ups and ongoing production
  • Analyse production data to identify issues and implement improvements
  • Support machine reliability and quality control efforts
  • Manage technical equipment and inventory
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and food safety standards (FSSC)
  • Train operational staff on equipment use and best practices
  • Participate in the implementation of new systems and engineering tools
  • Maintain documentation of processes and changes
  • Promote continuous improvement and support a safe working environment
