Introduction
We currently have an opportunity for a General Manager Operations Inland to be based in Gauteng who will be responsible for overseeing and optimising all inland operational functions, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective delivery of logistics services. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the GM Ops Inland will be responsible for implementing strategies, managing teams, and achieving key performance targets for inland operations in the JHB, POL, NLS and KLD regions.
Strategic and Operational Planning and Implementation :
- Assist in developing and executing an integrated inland logistics strategy that aligns with the company’s overall objectives and targets.
- Drive the implementation of key operational strategies aimed at improving performance and meeting customer satisfaction goals.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, fleet demand, and operational requirements to make data-driven decisions.
- Draft, maintain, and enforce relevant inland operational policies, procedures, and processes.
- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance customer experience and service delivery.
- Identify operational risks, contribute to risk mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with contracts and client requirements.
- Monitor compliance with industry regulations and corporate policies at the inland operations level.
- Assist in tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) for the inland division, ensuring alignment with revenue goals and performance targets.
- Implement best practices to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency within the inland logistics team.
- Develop, monitor, and manage the annual inland logistics budget.
- Analyse financial results and operational performance, making recommendations for cost-saving measures and improvements.
- Monitor expenditure, ensuring that it remains within budgetary constraints.
- Respond to variances in financial results, identifying areas for remedial action and cost optimisation.
Operational Management :
Manage daily inland operations, ensuring smooth execution of logistics activities while adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).Oversee compliance with transportation laws, industry regulations, and health & safety requirements.Manage and monitor vendor contracts and service level agreements (SLAs), ensuring operational continuity and compliance.Plan and implement route optimisation strategies to reduce costs while maintaining service quality.Ensure efficient resource allocation, including manpower, vehicles, and facilities, to optimise inland operations.Troubleshoot and resolve any operational issues that may arise, including customer queries and escalated complaints.Monitor and maintain stock levels, ensuring optimal inventory management within the inland operations.Maintain and foster relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and internal teams.Represent the company in meetings, workshops, and industry forums, acting as a key point of contact for inland logistics matters.Track and respond to customer satisfaction feedback, working to resolve issues and improve service delivery.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of resources and operational priorities with business goals.People Management :
Lead and develop the inland operations team, ensuring alignment with company policies and objectives.Foster a positive work environment that supports staff development and team cohesion.Identify training needs and implement development plans to enhance the capabilities of the inland operations team.Manage team performance, providing guidance and feedback to ensure team members meet operational and organisational objectives.Lead the recruitment and selection process for inland logistics staff, ensuring that the right talent is hired.Handle disciplinary processes and manage behavioural issues, ensuring a positive and productive workplace.Logistics / Supply Chain Qualification would be advantageousMinimum 10 years’ experience in management role / similar position with proven experience in managing Logistics or operations, ideally within the inland transport or supply chain sectorsExcellent elocution in English and presentation capabilitiesMS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)Must have own motor vehicleOperating computer systemsAble to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholdersStrong understanding of financial management, budget creation, and cost optimisation.Excellent leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing teams.In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and best practices in the logistics industry.Ability to analyse performance metrics and implement improvements.Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work across various stakeholder groups.Respect and Care : Always show respect, care for and treat everyone fairly, put people firstIntegrity and Loyalty : Display loyalty, display integrity, do the right thing always!Can Do : Must have a can-do attitude, believe in yourself, and live out our values always.Continuous Improvement : Must be dedicated to continuous improvement, be innovative and constantly learning to keep ahead.#J-18808-Ljbffr
