Human Destiny is fielding candidates for a Deputy Managing Director position, for our client in the electrical, instrumentation and construction sector. Our client provides contractual services for commercial and residential construction projects, in the lightning, earthing and surge protection discipline. The position is office-based, in the Randburg area within Gauteng, and will involve operational and strategic management of the business.
Position Overview
The Deputy Managing Director will play a strategic leadership role in guiding the organization’s growth, operational excellence, and business development initiatives. The successful candidate will have strong management experience in engineering-related industries, with a particular understanding of construction, project management, electrical reticulation, and wherever possible a good grasp of lightning and surge protection within the realm of construction. This role requires a balance of strategic vision, business and commercial acumen, and technical insight to support and execute the company’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Support the Managing Director in defining and implementing the company’s strategic direction.
- Drive business growth through new market development, partnerships, and innovation.
- Oversee organizational performance, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Lead executive decision-making and participate in high-level strategic planning sessions.
Business Management & Development
Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the electrical and civil engineering sectors.Develop and maintain key client and stakeholder relationships.Lead the preparation and execution of tenders, proposals, and major project bids.Ensure financial sustainability and contribute to annual budgeting and forecasting processes.Operational Oversight
Provide leadership and direction to departmental managers, ensuring effective performance and accountability.Oversee project delivery at a high level, ensuring adherence to technical standards, timelines, and budgets.Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and quality within operations.Technical & Industry Knowledge
Apply a sound understanding of construction management and project management principles.Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, particularly IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards.Engage with engineering teams to assess and guide the technical aspects of projects as needed.Qualifications & Experience
Minimum N6 / NQF Level 6 qualification in Engineering (Electrical preferred) / Construction Management / Building Science / Quantity Surveying / Project Management or related discipline.5+ years of senior management or executive experience , preferably within an electrical contracting, construction or civil engineering environment.Proven experience in business development, strategic planning, and leadership roles.Skills & Attributes
Strong strategic and analytical thinking.Excellent leadership and people management skills.High level of business and financial acumen.Ability to build and maintain relationships at executive and client levels.Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.Technically competent with sound knowledge of construction projects as well as electrical-related disciplines such as electrical reticulation, instrumentation or millwright experience.Knowledge of LPS , earthing , resistivity , and IEC standards would be highly favoured attributes.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
