Overview
Position : Maintenance Engineer. Contract opportunity exists for Maintenance Engineer at mine site in Southern Africa. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring accurate verification of installed assets, equipment, and spares on site. The role requires reviewing installation quality and completeness against design documents, updating technical records, and developing operational and quality procedures. This position is critical to ensuring that engineering, maintenance, and operations teams have accurate data and systems in place to support safe and reliable plant operation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Asset & Equipment Verification
Confirm and update the asset register with correct and complete data.
Verify equipment nameplates, specifications, and technical details against design and supplier documentation.Review and update the spares list to ensure alignment with installed equipment.Assist with developing Bills of MaterialsInstallation & Design ComplianceInspect installations to confirm completeness and compliance with design drawings and technical specifications.
Identify and document deviations, punch-list items, or non-conformances for corrective action.Collaborate with contractors and suppliers to resolve installation or design discrepancies.Documentation & Technical RecordsUpdate and maintain P&IDs with as-built conditions.
Gather and organize technical documentation (manuals, datasheets, drawings) for all equipment.Ensure proper control and archiving of engineering records.Quality & Operational ReadinessAssess and confirm installation quality standards are met.
Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operation and maintenance of equipment.Prepare Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and checklists to support ongoing quality assurance.Stakeholder ManagementEnsure ongoing communication with Engineering Manager, Process Manager, Production Managers, etc.
Have weekly head of section meetings, information sessions and training sessions where required or new / change in processes.Ensure safety, legal and company policies are adhered to.Implementation a culture of best practice maintenance.Minimum RequirementsExperience
5 - 10 years experience in a plant, mining, construction, or heavy industrial environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of asset management systems, P&IDs, SOP / QCP development, and installation verification.Experience with commissioning, project punch lists, and as-built documentation preferred.Familiarity with maintenance management software (CMMS / ERP) advantageous.QualificationsBachelors Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification).
Additional RequirementsKnowledge of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) e.g. SAP, Pronto and / or Pragma On Key experience.
