Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Sample Preparer Supervisor to join the team in Gqeberha on a 12 months fixed-term contract. The position is responsible for effectively preparing all received samples timeously as per Sample Preparations procedures to ensure a high degree of precision and accuracy is achieved from subsequent analytical procedures whilst complying with all SHEQ procedures.
Responsibilities
- Receiving, Identification and registration of samples immediately per client sample submission request in a traceable manner
- Preparation of all samples for chemical / fire assay analyses including filtration, screening, drying, mixing, dividing / splitting, crushing, milling samples as per Standard Operating Procedures
- Advising the Supervisor of any equipment breakdown, flawed supplies or sub-standard samples relating to preparation
- Mixing and dividing bulk samples as per instructions by the Supervisor
- Carrying out moisture and percent solids determinations as per client request
- Carrying out wet or dry screening including processing samples requiring assay by size or for microscope analysis
- Safe operation of sample preparation equipment such as filter press, drying ovens, crushers, rotary / riffle splitters, swing mill, balances and subsequent verifications and or efficiency testing
- Handling and safe storage of retention samples for customers
- Reporting any incidents on shift to the Shift Supervisor within 12 hours of the incident
- Ensuring the confidentiality of all test items at all times
- Assisting with performing instrument checks, balance verifications and recording all relevant data and faulty equipment being brought to the attention of the Shift Supervisor
- Perform assigned additional tasks according to established priorities and procedures
- Ensuring that all laboratory work areas and work stations are kept clean and tidy and samples are stored as per procedure
- Assisting with the maintaining of records and laboratory data such that work is clearly and easily auditable and traceable
- Alerting the Shift Supervisor of low stock levels or specialised materials formally before stock levels dry up
- Maintain a professional standard and appearance during working hours and while representing the company
- Always wear approved and supplied PPE during hours of operation or when performing duties
- Ensuring that the Company’s SHEQ policy and procedure are adhered to in areas under the post holder’s control
- Observing and complying with operational requirements and safety regulations applicable to his / her work area. Non-compliance will be considered to be serious misconduct, and the Employer is hereby indemnified by the Employee towards any liability resulting from an injury or illness as a result of non-compliance with safety measures
- Carrying out other ad hoc duties as may be requested by the Sample Preparation and Fire Assay Supervisor from time to time.

Grade 12 (with Maths and Science)Analytical Chemistry Diploma or other appropriate tertiary qualificationWork Experience
