Job Knowledge

, Skills and Experience

  • A BTech in Information Technology or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in Cisco Network (LAN, WAN and Wireless) Deployment, Configuration, and Support / in CCNA / HCIA (International certified).

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure that enterprise network infrastructure planning is aligned with the Departmental Operation Plan (DOP) and the Institutional Operational Plan.
  • Implement enterprise network strategies for Disaster Recovery.
  • Plan, implement and configure scalable, resilient, network infrastructure solutions and related technologies according to business requirements, with a specific focus on data centre technologies.
  • Maintain CPUT’s network infrastructure according to agreed service standards, including capacity, performance and availability, as well as providing second-line support on deployed network technologies.
  • Provide technical network expertise as part of ICT infrastructure projects and participate in other CPUT projects to contribute towards business objectives.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for integration, consolidation and enhancements to ensure the cost-effective and optimal use of network resources and technology.
  • Research and evaluate alternative network architectures and related technologies as well as recommend suitable implementation plans in alignment with the CPUT’s network architecture framework and roadmap.
  • Create and maintain technical network topology diagrams and provide structured documentation and procedures for the CPUT’s network infrastructure.
  • Keep abreast of new network technologies and liaise with vendors for purposes of product and technology review, coordinating vendor presentations where relevant.
  • Mitigate risks in the network environment as identified by internal or external auditors and other governance-related assessments.
  • Design and implement enterprise network upgrades.
  • Pro-active monitoring and manage utilisation of university network infrastructure provided by 3rd parties.
  • Liaise and manage 3rd party service providers to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Ensure high availability of enterprise network infrastructure through the use of monitoring tools.
  • Provide enterprise network maintenance and support.
  • Process Management.
  • Supervise and mentor junior network technicians and Interns.
