Please be aware that this position is for part-time shifts, and as such, you cannot be permanently employed. You must also reside in Stellenbosch or the surrounding areas.Enrolled Nurse or Phlebotomy Technician with a certificate in Phlebotomy TechniquesRegistered with SANC or with HPCSA as a Medical Technician in the category of PhlebotomyAt least 1-2 years of work experience as a Phlebotomist.It is recommended to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B. If your application is successful, you will be required to get a Hep B vaccination.Sound knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and processes, relevant statutory and regulatory requirementsExperience in drawing blood from paediatric patientsArterial blood gases draw experienceBasic life support trainedPatient assessment and counselling skillsRisk identification skillsSound knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocolsStrong interpersonal skills and exceptional bedside mannerWell-presented and professional communication skillsAdministrative skills and attention to detailProficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)Key Outputs
Job Summary : To draw blood, or other samples / specimens, from patients for various testing purposes in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.Perform a variety of routine and complex blood and specimen collecting procedures in line with professional standards and regulatory requirements to ensure safe patient careConduct pre-and post-test counselling to patients and family members to explain blood draw procedures and answer any questions about the processIdentify, prevent and report risks to ensure patient safety and follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a sterile work areaPerform administrative tasks to ensure correct and accurate recording and processing of patient and clinical informationEnsure that all utilised stock is accurately recorded and chargedBuild and maintain collaborative working relationships as part of the hospital emergency centre's multi-disciplinary teamScience jobs
