Job Description
The Assembly Foreman plays a pivotal role in overseeing the assembly team's activities, ensuring efficient, high-quality and timely assembly of positive displacement pump units and accessories. The Foreman is based in the Assembly office and responsible for managing a team of six employees. the Assembly Foreman oversees the entire assembly process, from component stripping to final assembly through planning with production and stores, including witnessing quality control check points such as hydrostatic pressure testing, torque verification on fasteners, gear backlash checks and hydrodynamic testing. Where required, the Assembly Foreman will need to get “onto the tools” himself / herself to either demonstrate or assist with the job and by so doing, leads by example. The role involves stringent quality checks, non-conformance reporting, proposing innovative solutions to enhance both quality and efficient assembly through the implementation of jigs and fixtures as well as procedures, and crucially, cross communicating with the Factory and Stores divisions to ensure timely and accurate preparation of components aligned with the assembly schedule / plan which he or she generates. This role requires in-depth understanding of mechanical fitting as well as the end product requirements.
- Lead and manage a team of six employees, each responsible for specific aspects of the assembly process (stripping, sub-assembly of gearbox, sub-assembly of fluid ends, final assembly and testing).
- Foster a collaborative and efficient working environment within the assembly team.
- Supervise and coordinate the entire assembly process including coordinating spares.
- Ensuring each employee performs their duty according to procedure and in a timely manner.
- Assist with troubleshooting issues and raising NCR’s where required.
- Oversee pressure testing, backlash testing and no-load testing as well as conduct final release inspection of components ready for shipment.
- Assembly of pumps and sub-assemblies when not performing supervisor or quality checks
- Mentor the Assembly team members to improve their skills and understanding through on-the-job training and support through guidance.
- Conduct rigorous quality checks according to work instructions to ensure the highest standards of quality.
- Oversee QCP document hold points.
- Raise non-conformances promptly with QC, documenting and addressing quality issues.
- Propose and implement solutions to streamline quality issues and assembly time, incorporating the use of jigs and fixtures and procedures / methods.
- Continuously assess and improve assembly processes (work instructions) for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with the Production Planning Team to align assembly schedules with component preparation, ensuring timely availability of components.
- Communicate with Stores to ensure accurate and adequate preparation of components required for the assembly process.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the assembly area.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, enforcing proper housekeeping practices.
- Foster team spirit and motivation among assembly staff.
- Assist in training and knowledge sharing to enhance the skills of the assembly team.
- Assist the General Manager or Senior management in any other tasks or functions as required from time-to-time
