Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Consulting Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and close-out of commercial refrigeration installations. This role covers the full spectrum of consulting services—from project inception and detailed design to documentation, procurement, construction oversight, and final project handover. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in client engagement and leadership across refrigeration projects. While the primary focus is on refrigeration systems, the role may also extend to HVAC projects as needed. The role is client-facing and project-driven.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to :

Proficient in heat load calculations

Understanding of South African National Standards (SANS – including 10147 & SANS 347), British Standards, ASHRAE, etc. (advantageous)

Design based on client requirements and specifications

Proficient in modelling software and BIM (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, etc.)

Proficient in all project stages from inception through close-out; capable of constructing and compiling tender documentation and management of that process

Formulation of Bills of Quantities (BOQ)

Specialist equipment specifications understanding and approvals

Quality control (QA / QC)

Site supervision and construction monitoring

Troubleshooting existing installations

Cost control related to HVAC & R

Project scoping and scope monitoring

Contractor and contract management (mechanical Refrigeration and HVAC discipline)

Health and Safety : role model standards for SHEQ performance and behaviour; identify SHEQ risks and drive processes to achieve Zero Harm; promote company values and maintain a safe working environment in all locations.

Qualifications and Experience

BEng / BSc / BTech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalently experienced competent person through ECSA

Professional registration with ECSA

Minimum 5 years working experience in refrigeration - commercial

Experience related to commercial refrigeration design and commissioning; HVAC mechanical experience advantageous

Location : Johannesburg or Cape Town (relocation not required)

Key Competencies and Generic Skills

Experience with Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360)

Self-motivated and team player

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Ability to manage projects with guidance from a senior engineer

High level of self-sufficiency and good common sense

Willingness to travel

Code B driver’s license (own car preferred)
