Overview
The Service Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems on package boilers. This role requires regular travel (local and abroad) and flexibility to work beyond normal hours when necessary. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of boilers, instrumentation, and electrical systems, and will ensure compliance with all safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
- Prepare sketches or follow technical drawings to determine wiring locations and equipment placement.
- Install ground leads, connect power cables, and ensure conformance to building and safety regulations.
- Install, inspect, service, repair, and upgrade equipment according to instructions and specifications.
- Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting on electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Evaluate boiler room systems, gather operational data, and assist in resolving technical problems.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot variable speed drives (VSD / VFD) and related control systems.
- Install and calibrate instrumentation to meet required operational outputs.
- Compile material lists and estimate equipment requirements for onsite installations and terminations.
- Generate sales leads and quotations through client interactions and service visits.
- Ensure accurate completion of service reports, inspection documents, timesheets, and job orders.
- Use hand and power tools, testing instruments, and measuring devices safely and effectively.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in confined spaces.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components.
- Maintain compliance with occupational health and safety standards at all times.

Qualifications
N3 Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation qualification.Trade Test Certificate in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Millwright (essential).Valid, unendorsed driver’s licence (essential).SAGA Membership (advantageous).Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience as an electrical, instrumentation, or millwright technician.Experience in boiler servicing, maintenance, and commissioning (John Thompson Boilers advantageous).Strong technical ability to read and interpret schematics and technical data.Working knowledge of inverter drives and PLC systems.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Understanding of package boiler systems and related mechanical processes.Key Competencies
