Job description

Job Purpose

Drives the required certifications and approvals necessary for Schauenburg Systems to deliver products to their intended markets. Supports and coaches Engineering Project managers, System Engineers and Product Managers in the requirements and best methods to achieve international certifications and approvals. Contribute to the overall engineering activities related to the delegated tasks, draft and present for review relevant engineering documentation in accordance with delegated tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in electronic / computer engineering
  • 3-5 years' experience in the electronic, engineering field
  • Hardware and software R&D experience
  • Experience in formal testing, certification and approval techniques (non-negotiable)
  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary environment (advantages)

Responsibilities

Certification Management

  • Contribute and actively participate in all certification activities (meetings, discussions, activities, laboratory testing, specifications, report submission, documentation generation, etc)
  • Actively participate in and contribute towards engineering reviews, including documentation reviews and project reviews.
  • Ensure that all products are aligned to achieve local and international certification

  • Provide recommendations for the certification and approval process.

    • Elicitation

  • Identify certification and approval standards, stakeholders, testing laboratories and approval authorities.
  • Ensure that we have the current certification and approval standards and are aware of pending changes to these standards.

    • Requirement, architecture and design validation

  • Actively participate in reviews of requirements, architectures and designs
  • Comply with established standards and best operating practice
  • Identify related problems before resources are committed to addressing designs and architectures

    • Testing

  • Perform appropriate engineering and environmental testing
  • Manage the submission of products to testing and approval.
  • Facilitate the testing and approval of products, systems and sub-systems.
  • Ensure traceability is maintained
  • Maintain test records

    • Configuration

  • All documentation to be configured in accordance with internal configuration management policies and procedures
  • Issue tracking to be conducted in accordance with established standards and procedures
  • Preservation of the integrity and traceability of approval and certification throughout the system life cycle

    • Budget and project inputs

  • Provide inputs required for certification and approval scoping (work breakdown, resourcing and coordination)
  • Provide cost and duration inputs for certification and approval
  • Identify assumptions and potential risks to be considered during testing and approval
  • Manage the issues and risks involved with certification and approval
  • Identify opportunities for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of certification and approval

    • Support for internal clients

    Provide cooperation and support for :

  • Engineering Project management
  • System engineers
  • Design engineers

    • External technology partners / sub-contractors

    Facilitate liaising with customers concerning the appropriate certification and approval methods.

    Required Competences

    Knowledge of the local land internal testing, certification and approval process and methods relating to :

    oGas instrumentation

    oCollison avoidance systems

    oLight current mining elections

    oVehicle control systems.

  • Experienced with support ticketing systems and life cycle management.
  • Well versed in communication techniques and technologies.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

    • Bonus Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to other engineers effectively.
  • Intrinsic Safety experience beneficial
  • Familiar with certification procedures at SABS, MSHA, ATEx, ANZEx, IECEx, MOSH, CE, FCC, ICASA
  • Experience in heavy engineering or mining environments
