Position : Composite Technician

Incomar is a leading aerospace and defence group based in Centurion, South Africa. We are continuously expanding our specialised product development, production and flight operations capabilities. The group was established in South Africa in 1999, with its origins in military aircraft weapons and avionics integration and flight testing. The group is well established in the local and international industry, with a strong capability in several specialist areas, including :

  • Systems Design, Development, and Integration.
  • System Testing on a range of platforms / products.
  • Product Development.
  • Flight Test Execution and Support.

Incomar Dynamics, a subsidiary within the Incomar group of companies is seeking a motivated individual to take up a Composite Technician role within Incomar Dynamics. This individual will report directly to the Head of Production.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Senior Certificate.
  • Applicable composite worker apprenticeship or training preferred but not mandatory.
  • Police clearance certificate (required prior to commencement of employment).
  • Required Skills, Experience and Key Qualities

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a composite technician role.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and process planning documents.
  • Strong understanding of standard composite manufacturing processes and techniques, including wet-layup, infusion and prepregs.
  • Experience with repair techniques for composite materials.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance techniques applicable to composite manufacturing.
  • Basic proficiency in using hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Good communicator.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Able to multitask.
  • Self-motivated and output driven.
  • High work capacity and ability to deliver under pressure.
  • Quality driven with good attention to detail.
  • Team player.
  • Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with advanced composite processes such as resin infusion and automated fibre placement.
  • Experience with defining curing cycles for composite resins.
  • Experience with materials testing.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific software for process documentation and quality control.
  • Previous work experience in the aerospace and defence industry.
  • Job Description

  • Composite Technician within the Production Department.
  • Provide support and perform the preparation of materials and tooling, the lay-up of components, curing, trimming, drilling and cutting of components as well of bonding components into an assembly.
  • Composite Technician Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and process documents.
  • Assemble component parts to make moulds and prepare moulds for composite manufacture.
  • Preparation of composite materials for manufacture.
  • Laminator Responsibilities :
  • Create moulds and perform layups for composite parts using various techniques including hand layup, vacuum bagging and autoclave curing.

  • Mix materials and apply coatings to composite materials.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to perform composite repairs.
  • Fit and Bond components together to form bonded assemblies.
  • Trim and Drill Responsibilities :
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Trim components and flashing to tolerances as specified in technical drawings.
  • Drill and cut cavities in components as specified in technical drawings.
  • Programming and operation of curing ovens.
  • Ensure all composite materials are handled and stored properly.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to determine the best approach for each project and to identify and resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used and fabrication processes followed to support traceability and quality assurance efforts.
  • Work within the Incomar quality standards.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
