Candidates will engage directly with senior leadership, contributing to the development and embedding of a strong risk culture across the business.
Job Purpose
To ensure that the Nedbank Group Risk Frameworks are embedded, operationalised, and implemented within the business. The role provides strategic risk guidance across all risk types, supports regulatory compliance, and engages with senior stakeholders to drive risk awareness and governance. The incumbent will play a key role in identifying, classifying, and resolving risks and issues, while contributing to the business’s transformation agenda and strategic objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Embed and operationalise the Group Risk Framework through governance structures, risk charters, and alignment with strategic committees such as the Divisional Executive Committess (DivExCo), governance committees such as the Enterprise-wide Risk Committee (ERCO), Segment Credit Committees (SCC), and operational level management meetings such as Business Reviews (BR) and Operational Management Committees (OPCOM).
- Facilitate risk identification, logging, and tracking across the business, distinguishing between risks, issues, and concerns.
- Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and ensure appropriate documentation of loss events.
- Provide guidance on regulatory and legal risk matters, including compliance with Credit related collections and legal recoveries legislation such as the SARB Directive 11 (distressed restructures). Further, provide guidance on non-credit related regulatory matters such as AML, FATCA, and other emerging regulations.
- Engage with business units via management committees (Mancos) to surface and address emerging risks.
- Ensure alignment of business processes to Group Risk standards and monitor risk mitigation efforts.
- Revise cluster risk process guidelines to ensure full compliance with risk standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, service providers, and internal stakeholders to support risk awareness and strategic alignment, as well as to influence decision making of stakeholders by providing an advisory service, guidance and support on operational risk management practices
- Drive transformation and diversity initiatives, contributing to BEE targets and a culture of inclusion.
- Support corporate social responsibility and Nedbank culture-building initiatives.
- Improve work processes and reduce costs through innovation and collaboration.
- Track team performance and allocate tasks based on risk areas.

Advanced Diplomas / National 1st DegreesPreferred Qualification

Member of Institute of Risk Management of South Africa and / or Compliance Institute of South AfricaMinimum Experience Level
8–10 years in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and should be well conversant with the 3 lines of defense model and the Nedbank Risk taxonomy.Preferred Backgrounds :
ERM generalist with exposure to multiple risk types.Risk, Legal and Compliance experience, especially in collections and recoveries environment within Banking.Operational risk specialists with potential to be upskilled into broader ERM.Technical / Professional Knowledge
