Job description

Purpose

The CAD Draughtsman provides crucial support to the product design team by producing 3D CAD models of new and existing products under the creative direction of the designers. By supporting the designers, the CAD Draughtsman ensures efficient flow from conceptual design through to finished product.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Must be proficient in 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks, Rhino 3D or similar.
  • Assist the product design team in 3D modelling of parts and products.
  • Produce accurate CAD models based on 3D scans, 2D drawings, sketches, existing product and verbal instruction.
  • Prepare models and export them to various file types.
  • Create technical packs for suppliers to sample and produce products.
  • Experience in 3D modelling of / working with organic forms beneficial.
  • Experience in digital sculpting software such as ZBrush beneficial.
  • Must be precise with dimensions and any other specifications requested.
  • Must have high attention to detail.
  • Must have good eye for form.
  • Must be able to take direction and constructive criticism with ease to produce quality outcomes efficiently.
  • Must be systematic and organised in terms of filing and documenting production files and specifications.
  • Knowledge of a variety of materials and production techniques beneficial (stamped, cast and forged metals, ceramics, glassware etc).
  • Experience in 3D printing beneficial.
  • Experience in 3D scanning beneficial.

Requirements

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions including meeting qualitative and / or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, consistent and punctual attendance.

    • Minimum requirements

  • Experience in 3D CAD modeling of items for machining or mass production.
  • 2 years+ Proven experience as a CAD Draughtsman in a design or manufacturing environment.
  • A clear understanding of 3D form and CAD modelling for production.
  • Tertiary Degree or Diploma in Industrial Design, Drafting, Engineering or related field.
