Overview

Superbalist City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

DevSecOps Engineer role at Superbalist. This position reports to the Engineering manager and sits at the intersection of software development, infrastructure operations, and security. The engineer should be proactive, take ownership of assigned projects, and collaborate with technical colleagues to gather and organise information into a sensible action plan.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and report on our security posture using new or existing tooling.
  • Lead initiatives to regularly assess vulnerabilities, remediate issues, and track findings to continuously improve application security.
  • Develop and maintain security monitoring, logging and alerting systems to improve security observability.
  • Configure, manage, and optimize WAF solutions to protect web applications from attacks.
  • Design, develop and test code written in Golang or NodeJS or Python.
  • Draft technical specifications and briefs.
  • Maintain and improve code quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • If no degree, equivalent experience of a minimum of 4 years in a DevSecOps role or strong background in both DevOps and security.
  • Practical experience with containerized environments (Docker & Kubernetes preferred).
  • Practical experience with Terraform with emphasis on integrating security controls.
  • Experience configuring, managing and integrating into CI / CD tools and pipelines.
  • Experience in a Mac / Linux environment.
  • Experience with metrics and monitoring systems (Prometheus / Grafana / NewRelic / Elastic APM, etc.).
  • Proficient in shell scripting.
  • Experience with Cloudflare enterprise offering and Google Cloud (Compute Engine / Kubernetes Engine / BigQuery / CloudSQL / etc.).
  • Experience in securing PHP projects and familiarity with microservices architecture and securing APIs.
  • Experience in the e-commerce space is desirable.
