Job Purpose
Reporting to the Manager : IT Corporate Services, the incumbent will be expected to provide leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives. The Manager : ICT directs the planning and implementation of enterprise wide IT Governance and Systems in support of business operations in order to improve cost effectiveness, service quality, and business development.
The Senior Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, performance, and scalability of all network systems, while providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff. The Senior Network Administrator works closely with IT leadership, security teams, and business units to support organizational goals and digital transformation initiatives.
Minimum Qualification requirements & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information engineering or other related study areas.
- 5 yrs Technical experience in full server installation, set up & support (2008, 2012, 2016, 2019).
- 2-3 yrs exp in network planning & installation
Key Performance Areas
Understanding of the service delivery model.A conceptual understanding of the Service delivery model required.Evaluate emerging network technologies and recommended solutions that support digital transformation and business strategy.Supporting ICT Manager in ICT planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.Implement ICT operationsDesign, deploy, and maintain LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure minimal downtime.Maintain network documentation and configuration recordsManage Hardware and Operating System Support for ServersManage support calls for the supported environmentManage Changes for the supported environmentManaging the Company’s IT InfrastructureThis responsibility includes overseeing the organization’s network, server infrastructure, and cloud services, while ensuring security, reliability, and scalability. In addition, the role requires driving automation initiatives to improve efficiency and leading the introduction and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance business operations and decision-making.Setup, support and maintain the Company Core IT infrastructureAdminister servers, switches, routers, and other network equipment.Plan and implement network upgrades, expansions, and migrations.Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness for critical ICT systems.IT GovernanceAssist in ensuring that BSA complies with all relevant laws and regulations as well as Brand SA policies, procedures and guidelines.Adhere to the approved ICT strategy and ensure alignment to the Annual Performance Plan of Brand South Africa.Assist the manager in ensuring adherence to the IT budget.Manage and report on relationships managed through the SLAs with vendors.Identify and report new and known IT risks to the IT manager and update the risk register.Assist in the implementation of the COBIT framework in the organization.Document current and new changes to the infrastructure following the approved IT Change Management Policy.Represent IT in the POPIA Committee.Implement and update IT Asset and Sim-card Register.IT SecurityEnsure compliance with ICT security policies, regulations, and standards. Update Antivirus engines and patterns and make sure that the entire IT environment is patched and protected.Manage, monitor and report the Security Incident and Events Management activities.Maintain an up to date threat, patch and updates environment.Design and review the windows scripts managing the deployment of Group Policy Management.Implement and enforce network security policies, standards, and best practices.Monitor and respond to network security incidents and vulnerabilities.Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve scalability and efficiency.Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection / prevention systems, and access controls.Perform regular vulnerability assessments and mitigation.Compliance and Reporting.Implement the IT Change Management Policy and report on all approved changes on a monthly basis.Provide Backup & replication reports to management.Design and update the IT Infrastructure Network diagram.Report on malware detected on the environment and any changes relating to computer security.Provide reports on the IT utilisation.Required Technical Skills, Competencies and Attributes
Excellent written and oral communications skills.Strong knowledge of network protocols, security standards, and infrastructure management.AD, VMWare or HyperV, Azure, D365MCSE / MCITP, A+, N+ CCNA advantageousNetwork Architecture & Design : Ability to design, implement, and manage enterprise-level LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.Network Protocols & Services : Deep understanding of TCP / IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, and subnetting.Firewall and Security Management : Proficiency with security appliances (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet) and principles of network security, VPNs, intrusion detection / prevention (IDS / IPS), and access control.Routing and Switching : Advanced knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, or similar routing and switching equipment.Monitoring and Performance Tuning : Use of tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, or Wireshark for troubleshooting and performance optimization.Disaster Recovery and Redundancy Planning : Implementing high-availability, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.Cloud Networking : Understanding of hybrid cloud environments, cloud networking and virtual networking in platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.Virtualization and Infrastructure Integration : Familiarity with VMware, Hyper-V, and their network implications.Must be customer / user focused and driven to excel.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under pressure.Assisting staff with all Information Technology – based problems.Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.Strong project management and organisational skills.Adaptability to emerging technologies and evolving business requirementsOperational Competencies
