In South Africa, GenU aims to skill and connect 1.5 million young people to opportunities by 2030. This consultancy supports developing an evidence-driven private sector engagement strategy and an operational roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Create an integration strategy to align GenU with government efforts, particularly the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI).
- Conduct a comprehensive scoping of the private sector landscape related to youth opportunities.
- Develop a strategy for private sector engagement around youth livelihoods, skilling, and employment.
- Conduct comprehensive scoping of digital marketplace systems in South Africa that offer work / gig opportunities to self-employed / entrepreneurial youth.
- Facilitate higher impact collaborations and articulate a clear value proposition to government and private sector partners.
- Provide an operational roadmap and toolkit to measure and account for private sector contributions to youth outcomes.
Scope of work
Develop an Integration Strategy with Government Initiatives, including desk reviews, consultations, and national travel to map programs like PYEI and YES.Scope Private Sector Youth Opportunities by mapping key private sector actors, cataloguing existing initiatives, and identifying gaps and opportunities in skilling, internships, and job placements.Formulate a Private Sector Engagement Strategy with actionable partnership models, incentives, and a framework for ongoing multi-stakeholder dialogue and monitoring metrics.Strategy to Roll-Out Digital Impact Marketplace Systems to support self-employment, including benchmarking and recommendations for UNICEF’s Youth Agency Marketplace (YOMA).Deliverables & Timeline

Education : Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Economics, Business Development, Development Studies, Public Policy / Administration, Public Relations, International Relations, Youth Development, Partnerships, or related field.Work Experience : At least 10 years; proven private sector engagement and partnership experience with government and youth development in South Africa; strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.Skills : Knowledge of South African youth development landscape and relevant government programs; systems integration experience; familiarity with Generation Unlimited / UNICEF agendas; UN experience advantageous.Languages : Proficiency in English (and local UN language as applicable).Application & Selection
