Overview
A vacancy exists for a Theatre Qualified Registered Nurse, based at Life Eugene Marais Hospital, reporting to the Theatre Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the surgical team to perform surgical procedures on patients successfully and to ensure that the patient receives optimal care in accordance with company and hospital strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring effective financial management by accurate charging, including managing theatre clocking time.
- Ensuring consignment stock, equipment and prostheses are charged according to policy.
- Managing stock by participating in regular stock taking and controlling consignment stock in accordance with hospital policy.
- Affecting the functioning of theatre equipment and instrumentation by educating and supervising staff on correct utilization of equipment.
- Providing quality patient care by obtaining correct information pre-operatively and visiting the patient post-operatively.
- Ensuring that the patient is comfortable and assisting the doctor during the surgical procedure.
- Providing theatre specific training and assessing the competence of staff.
- Assisting the Unit Manager to monitor normal and overtime hours and ensuring the theatre team works according to the scope of practice.
- Giving feedback to the Unit Manager to assess and promote optimal performance.
- Ensuring SHEQ management, including use of personal protective clothing and compliance with ISO requirements and infection control through proper disposal of medical waste.
- Maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders by attending review and consultative meetings and escalating unresolved issues when necessary.
