Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare precise 2D drawings and 3D models for mechanical and structural designs related to underground mining infrastructure.
  • Design and layout of general arrangements and detailing of shaft steelwork, headgear structures, winder and hoisting systems, steelwork support structures, platework and transfer chute systems , and associated underground mechanical equipment and controls.
  • Develop general arrangements, detailed sections, assembly drawings, and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Ensure all drawings comply with relevant mechanical and structural codes , industry standards, and client specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and other disciplines (Civil, Structural, Mechanical and E & I) to coordinate and integrate design work.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to resolve technical issues or clashes.
  • Revise and update drawings as required based on design changes or site instructions.
  • Maintain drawing registers and manage version control for all issued documents.

Qualifications & Experience

Education :

  • National Diploma or NQF Level 4 Certificate in Mechanical or Structural Draughting / Engineering Design.

    • Software Packages :

  • Proficient in any of the following : AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar 3D CAD software highly desirable.

    • Experience :

  • 5-10 years experience in Mechanical / Structural draughting experience in a mining and construction industry.
  • Strong background in underground mining infrastructure , particularly in the design of vertical shafts , headgear , and structural steelwork .
  • Proven experience in producing layouts, GAs, Steelwork structures and Mechanical equipment and platework drawings related to the mining industry.

    • Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in 3D mechanical design tools.
  • Strong understanding of structural steelwork , mechanical installations , and underground mining systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and calculations.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to drawing accuracy and design integrity.
  • Excellent organisational and documentation skills.
  • Strong team player with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively across disciplines.

    • Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with shaft sinking , winder systems , and underground mechanical infrastructure .
  • Exposure to mining project environments.
  • Familiarity with engineering document control systems.
  • Proficiency in a selected Autodesk software.
