Senior Investment Banker RPF

Job Summary

Resource and Project Finance (RPF) sits within Absa's Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) division and reports into the Head of CIB. The team is responsible for identifying, structuring, and executing RPF banking opportunities across Africa. The senior Investment Banker will lead the structuring and execution of project finance transactions and must have a minimum of 5‑7 years of experience in an Investment Banking Project Finance role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the origination and execution of resource and project finance transactions.
  • Conduct detailed transaction due diligence, including review of financial, legal, commercial, and technical reports.
  • Lead client, bank, and advisor interaction and ensure smooth transaction flow.
  • Support all aspects of execution from origination to close in line with the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Prepare term sheets and negotiate loan documentation.
  • Prepare the credit analysis and supporting documentation for credit committee approval.
  • Prepare and present marketing materials and pitches to target clients.
  • Cross‑sell other Bank products.
  • Assist portfolio management of existing transactions, including credit reviews, re‑determinations, waivers, and amendments.
  • Assist in promoting the Bank's strategy and profile.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop junior team members.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent with professional qualifications.
  • 5‑7+ years of experience in project finance.
  • Understanding of typical project finance structures, structured trade, commodity finance, reserve‑based lending, and corporate facilities.
  • In‑depth knowledge of natural resources and energy, power, and renewable energy sectors.
  • Strong credit and financial analysis / modelling skills.
  • Team player who can work independently when needed.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Track record of delivering initiatives in high‑pressure environments.
  • Leadership experience delivering high‑quality outcomes both independently and collaboratively.

    Senior Investment Banker : Special Asset Management

    Job Summary

    Seasoned Investment Banker to provide strategic financial advisory and transaction execution services to clients navigating distressed and special situations for the Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB). The role is suited to a seasoned Investment Banker with specialist knowledge in financial distress management and restructuring, and excellent verbal reasoning, negotiation skills, and the ability to operate under pressure. Candidates must hold a CA / LLB or similar with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience in distress, corporate finance, M&A, or debt advisory.

    Responsibilities

  • Work closely with distressed companies, boards, creditors, investors, and other stakeholders to formulate and execute restructuring and turnaround strategies.
  • Solution, negotiate, and deliver complex financial restructures to optimize outcomes for all parties while minimizing risk and maximizing commercial results.
  • Qualifications

  • BA / BS in Business, Commerce, or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in distressed finance, corporate finance, M&A, or debt advisory.
  • Depth of knowledge of CIB lending, trade products, corporate finance, and capital raising.

  • Experience in the beverage or FMCG industry.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, especially MSD.
