Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Our client, a leading company within the manufacturing industry, is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dynamic team in  Silvertondale, Pretoria, Gauteng .
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the research, design, and development of products using Solid Edge, with a strong focus on sheet metal, welding, and surface finishing processes such as phosphating and powder coating.
  • The role involves managing projects from concept through to production, ensuring adherence to industry standards, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical design skills, problem-solving abilities, and proven experience in the manufacturing sector, specifically within sheet metal production. The successful candidate must bring a minimum of  3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role.

    • Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience within the manufacturing industry.
  • Proficiency in Solid Edge (3D CAD modelling).
  • Strong background in sheet metal design and manufacturing processes.
  • Proven experience in welding, phosphating, and powder coating.
  • Knowledge of engineering drafting and design standards.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Previous exposure in liaising with clients and internal stakeholders.

    • Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Research, develop, and design mechanical components and products using Solid Edge.
  • Oversee the full design-to-production process, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
  • Develop and manage engineering and drafting practices in line with industry requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise on sheet metal fabrication, welding, and surface treatment processes.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations for projects.
  • Manage key customer accounts and provide technical support as needed.
  • Supervise and coordinate design-related activities to support sales and growth objectives.
  • Conduct research and development to improve products and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with good drawing office practices.
  • Analyse research and production data, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Liaise with customers regularly to ensure requirements are met and provide progress updates.
  • Support project management from initiation through to completion.
