Production Development Engineer (PDE) Distribution and Transmission Hardware

A reputable company is seeking a Production Development Engineer (PDE) to join its team. Reporting to the PDE Manager, this role is responsible for the development of products and manufacturing processes , with a focus on composite insulators and line hardware used in power transmission and distribution.

• ? Key Responsibilities :
• Develop and implement manufacturing processes and product designs for substation clamps, wireform, damping products, and other hardware.
• Manage project cost, timelines, prototyping, and technical qualification / testing.
• Drive design improvements and supplier engagement on new materials or components.
• Issue manufacturing drawings and support production implementation.
• Support quality by leading engineering-related non-conformance investigations and guiding inspection processes.
• Assist with technical submissions for tenders and resolve product-related customer complaints.
• ? Minimum Qualifications :
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (BSc Eng preferred)
• Professional registration with ECSA (mandatory)
• ? Experience :
• Minimum 5 years in product development within a manufacturing environment
• Proven experience in developing line hardware
• Experience in the power transmission and distribution industry is advantageous
• ? Skills & Knowledge :
• Strong problem-solving, design, and analytical skills
• Proficient in CAD, FEA, and MS Office
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, Engineering Professions Act, and SA Labour Laws
• Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SYSPRO) and SHEQX is beneficial
• Excellent communication, project management, and teamwork abilities
