The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in and support the primary goals and objectives of the Faculty and the Department in pursuit of this vision and strategic objective.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the various sub-disciplines and modules that constitute Public Law (Criminal Law, Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Interpretation Theory and Environmental Law).
- Supervise postgraduate students, in their dissertations and theses.
- Conduct and publish research in local, international, accredited journals, book chapters, books and monographs in the field of Public Law.
- Take on administrative and committee roles within the Faculty of Law and Department of Public Law, the broader University of Johannesburg when called upon.
- Mentor emerging staff in the Faculty of Law and the Department of Public Law.
- Attract and sustain fundraising initiatives and strategies to advance teaching and research scholarship.
- Participate in community engagement initiatives to advance societal engagement and impact.
- A doctoral degree in Public Law (Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Interpretation Theory, Jurisprudence and Introduction to Legal Studies and Human Rights).
- At least 5 or more years of lecturing experience in Public Law.
- Strong publication track record in reputable and accredited journals, book chapters and books.
- Strong commitment to research-led teaching, research and innovation.
- Sound communication skills in English.
- Evidence and experience in postgraduate supervision, including at the doctoral level and having supervised postgraduate students to completion.
- An NRF Rating will serve as an advantage, especially at Professor level.
- Evidence of developing external research grant applications and success, especially at Professor level.
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues.Good planning and organizational skills.Experience in the integration of ICT in teaching and learning, and electronic assessment techniques (e.g., Blackboard and Moodle).Capacity to administer large undergraduate modules.Ability to work well with others and within established processes.Punctuality.Knowledge of various subfields of Mercantile Law.Innovative, proactive, and creative.Ability to work in a pressurised environment and independently (or in a team).Great writing and presentation skills.High level of integrity and ethical foundation.Recommendations
