Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Responsible for preparing detailed project cost estimates and comprehensive proposals for electrical and automation projects. This role involves collaborating with sales, engineering, and other teams to understand client requirements and develop solutions that meet their needs. The Proposal Engineer analyzes requests for proposals (RFPs) and requests for quotations (RFQs), reviews technical requirements and drawings, and coordinates with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain necessary information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Matric (Grade 12)
ND in Electrical Engineering
B-Tech in Electrical Engineering (Advantage)

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP PREFERRED

Project Management Accreditation, Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) Membership, or membership in a relevant proposals professional body

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

General tender / contractual processes, requirements, and terminology

Cost and work package estimation techniques

Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and manipulating calculations.

Basic understanding of variable Speed Drives, MCC, PLC & SCADA

Basic understanding of electrical and automation engineering concepts, components, systems, methodologies and processes.

Building and Construction - Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.

Design Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

Requirements

EXPERIENCE

3-5 years’ Experience of formal estimating and pricing bids and proposal experience in an electrical engineering environment, industrial electrical projects and tenders, including experience with Motor Control Centers (MCC) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) projects.

3.5 years’ Experience in reading and analysing requests for proposal (RFPs) and requests for quotation (RFQs).

Experience with reading and analyzing technical requirements and drawings, with knowledge of Variable Speed Drives and SCADA systems.

Experience in the water and wastewater treatment industry (Advantage)

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Attention to Detail - Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks

Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills using English language sufficient to perform job functions

Able to work in a fast-paced environment

Flexibility to work overtime / weekends, as required

Demonstrated ability to cope with stress and maintain a pleasant and cooperative temperament with internal and external customers

Strong technical mindset and able to read and interpret technical data and translate to others

Highly numerate with the ability to research, assemble manage and manipulate numerical information

Knowledge of estimating techniques

Results & deadline orientated and organized with the ability to deliver Integrity - Job requires being honest and ethical
