The Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department (CSCD) is one of the largest probation departments in the United States, supervising more than 70,000 individuals and employing over 600 staff members across six locations. We provide a wide range of services including community supervision, outpatient counseling, cognitive‑behavioral programming, and residential treatment, designed to strengthen our clients’ abilities and support their long‑term success. With a focus on utilizing evidence‑based practices, we aim to improve outcomes and reduce recidivism for all clients under supervision.

Basic Function

The Community Supervision Officer Assistant is often the first point of contact for individuals navigating through community supervision—offering guidance, resolving concerns, and helping connect them to the right resources. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, people‑centered environment and takes pride in being a reliable, compassionate presence. In addition, this position supports the operations of the Department by assisting the Community Supervision Officers with duties related to individuals placed under community supervision. It provides guidance and support to clients while ensuring compliance with court orders and rehabilitation programs often requiring visits to their homes, depending on assignment.

Essential Functions

  • Greet clients cordially and assist with check‑in procedures and general inquiries, including home visits (if applicable)
  • Operate internal computer systems to manage client intake, scheduling and review as needed
  • Address routine client concerns when assigned officers are unavailable, including coordinating field visits
  • Perform casework that does not require CSO certification, ensuring accurate documentation and follow‑through
  • Identify complex client issues and ensure they’re directed to the appropriate staff for resolution
  • Exercise privileged communication and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of departmental operations and scope
  • Manage sensitive information with discretion
  • Testify in court when required, providing clear and accurate accounts of procedures followed
  • Review and update records in the Case Management System (CMS) and Program Database
  • Work additional time as needed to support departmental needs and ensure client service continuity
  • The office is based in one of our Houston locations and may require frequent travel throughout the Houston Metroplex
  • Company vehicle use based on availability

  • Contributes to and helps create a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative and amicable manner with supervisors, coworkers, subordinates and members of the public

    Education and Experience

  • Two (2) years of education at an institution of Higher Learning (Minimum 48 hours semester credit or equivalent at Community College or University)
  • Two (2) years of substantive work in the criminal justice industry (Must demonstrate experience in application of case management principals)
  • Six (6) months of employment with a Texas Community Supervision and Corrections Department
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Able to lift heavy files, up to 25‑30 pounds
  • Thorough knowledge of current office practices and procedures
  • Good working knowledge of current computer functions and procedures
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Proactive, solutions‑oriented mindset
  • Commitment to professionalism and public service
  • Eligibility for access to TCIC system
  • Licensure

  • Valid Texas Drivers’ License

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Regular Full‑time | 40 hours per week
  • Schedule will fall within these operational hours :
  • Monday - Thursday | 7 : 00 a.m. – 7 : 00 p.m.

  • Friday | 7 : 00 a.m. – 5 : 00 p.m.
  • Salary

  • $19.59 Hourly ($3,395.60 Monthly) - $21.80 Hourly (3,778.67 Monthly)
  • Depends on Qualifications
  • Based on 26 Pay Periods
  • Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to communicate with co‑workers and clients, and must be able to communicate and receive accurate information. The employee is regularly required to visually observe clients during individual and / or group settings for assessment purposes. The employee is occasionally required to travel to court, correctional facilities, or other HCCSCD or Harris County locations.
