The purpose of a Terminal Operator is to manage the loading and unloading of cargo from ships, trucks, and other vessels in a safe and efficient manner. Terminal Operators are responsible for the accurate and timely receipt, storage, and shipment of goods, as well as the maintenance of terminal facilities in compliance with governmental regulations and customer requirements. They must ensure that all equipment is maintained in good working order and that safety protocols are strictly observed. Terminal Operators must also be able to interpret and apply customer requirements to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with industry regulations
Terminal Operator Duties
Operate terminals to load and unload vessels, trucks and railcars
Monitor terminal activities, such as vessel loading, railcar switching, truck check-in and out
Communicate with vessel and truck drivers to coordinate loading and unloading
Inspect cargo and check bills of lading
Prepare manifests, cargo manifests and other shipping documents
Terminal Operator Requirements
High school diploma or GED
Strong customer service and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in various computer applications
