About the Role :
A global renewable energy developer is seeking an accomplished professional to drive commercial origination and structured energy sales across South Africa’s evolving power market. This senior position requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in energy trading, PPA structuring, and the development of innovative renewable energy solutions for corporate and industrial clients.
The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping and executing the organisation’s commercial strategy - building partnerships, identifying market opportunities, and delivering bankable energy products that advance South Africa’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead origination and commercial negotiation of Renewable Energy Supply Agreements (RESAs) and related offtake structures.
- Design and execute sales and origination strategies that drive new business and enhance market presence.
- Identify, evaluate, and secure energy trading opportunities through both tenders and bilateral arrangements.
- Build and maintain relationships with corporate clients, developers, municipalities, and financial intermediaries.
- Collaborate with internal trading, risk, and legal teams to optimise deal structures and ensure compliance with regulatory and market frameworks.
- Guide and mentor a small team of origination and business development professionals.
- Contribute to the design of new commercial offerings, including flexible supply, renewable certificates, and hybrid energy solutions.
- Represent the business at industry events and forums as a credible and trusted market leader.
Requirements :
10–15+ years’ experience in energy trading, origination, or structured energy sales, preferably within a utility, IPP, or trading environment.Proven track record in structuring and closing both physical and financial PPAs.Strong understanding of the South African power market, including licensing, wheeling frameworks, and bilateral trading.Commercially astute negotiator with sound financial and analytical skills.Established network across corporate energy buyers, project developers, and sector stakeholders.Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or Business (postgraduate or MBA preferred).Preferred Attributes :
