Electrical Material Purchasing Manager (Hybrid – South Africa, Flexible Location) Work Model : 50% Remote / 50% On‑Site (supplier visits) Contract : Full-time We are seeking an experienced Electrical Material Purchasing Manager to support our projects across South Africa.
Your place of residence is not important, as long as you can travel when required.
Most suppliers and manufacturers are based in Gauteng, so occasional visits to Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding areas will be necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase MV / LV electrical materials : cables, overhead line equipment, switchgear, insulators, concrete poles, accessories, and related items.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms and delivery conditions with South African distributors.
- Maintain strong relationships with major suppliers (Voltex, Aberdare, Rocla, McWade, Actom, Siemens SA, etc.).
- Request quotations and prepare price comparison reports.
- Verify supplier compliance : SABS, ISO, B‑BBEE, TRN, and manufacturing origin.
- Ensure purchased materials meet all technical specifications.
- Coordinate deliveries and material logistics with engineering teams.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and cost‑tracking documentation.
Requirements
No formal degree required, but hands‑on experience in electrical materials or electrical systems is essential.3+ years of experience purchasing electrical materials in South Africa.Solid knowledge of South African electrical distributors and manufacturers (especially in Gauteng).Strong negotiation skills and supplier management experience.Proficiency in Excel and basic administrative tools.Ability to travel to Gauteng when needed.Legal right to work in South Africa.A strong plus (not mandatory) Electrical Engineer or Electrical Technician background.Business‑related skills or education (e.g., supply chain, business administration, commercial negotiations, procurement management).Experience with MV overhead lines, concrete poles, and distribution equipment.Familiarity with SABS, B‑BBEE, TRN and supplier‑certification processes.#J-18808-Ljbffr
