IVANHOE MINES is looking for a Group Financial Accountant.

The development of the Kamoa-Kakula copper mining complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Platreef palladium‑rhodium‑platinum‑nickel‑copper‑gold discovery in South Africa, the extensive redevelopment and upgrading of the historic Kipushi zinc‑copper‑germanium‑silver mine, also in the Democratic Republic of Congo and exploration on the Western Foreland, near Kamoa‑Kakula.

The Group Financial Accountant is a key junior management role within the Finance Department. As a mining group with all 3 major projects in development and production, this role is responsible for all aspects of project accounting on a standalone and consolidated basis. This role will be involved in all aspects of Group Financial Reporting, Financial Planning and Analysis and Tax as it would rotate between these departments on a periodic basis.

The output of this position is included in published external reporting as well as reports presented to executive management and the Board of Directors.

Some of the key focus areas for this role include consolidations and financial reporting, budget preparation and monitoring, treasury management, financial modelling and tax. These functions are crucial to the successful operation of not only the project companies but also to the listed Canadian company. The output of this department and role is vital in ensuring the financial wellbeing of Ivanhoe.

You will have the following :

  • A Chartered Accountant (South Africa) with a minimum of 2‑year post qualifications experience
  • Experience within the mining industry
  • Experience with complex accounting treatment of financing transactions and the treatment of pre‑production mining costs and deferred revenue
  • Experience in accounting for revenue in the mining industry and remeasurement of contract receivables
  • Experience in the budgeting process
  • Experience in the treasury administration process

Minimum advanced skills and knowledge required :

  • Consolidations preparation within a multi‑currency, multi‑jurisdictional environment
  • Preparation of reports that are externally published and provided to a multi‑faceted stakeholder base
  • Forecasting and budgeting of mining companies that are not yet in an advanced stage of production
  • Your Key Performance Activities will include but not limited to :

    As a critical junior management role within the department, the key responsibilities of this role (operating on a rotational basis between Financial Reporting, FP&A and Tax) are :

  • Group and joint venture consolidations, accounting and reporting to external shareholders on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. This involves multi‑currency and multi‑jurisdictional reporting.
  • Project accounting and reporting for inclusion in group consolidated results which are published externally on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Assist with the financial planning and analysis process involving preparation of budget workbook templates, consolidation of budgets received from various budget holders across the Interrogation of the accuracy of budgetary information prepared by other departments. Analysis and tracking of budgeted costs against actual costs.
  • Timely preparation and submission of periodic facilities compliance requirements for Group companies.
  • Input into the preparation of internal and external reports such as the Group Financial Statements, CFO report and Management’s Discussion and Analysis.
  • Detailed review and monitoring of financial reporting packs prepared by the finance departments across the Group. Evaluation of validity, accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparation of complex accounting for unique financial transactions that arise during the operations of the projects and then communicating such accounting to the relevant departments
  • Preparation of tax calculations and tax returns for South African subsidiaries.
  • Review of tax calculations and tax returns of companies located in other jurisdictions.Indirect supervision and monitoring of work performed by other junior members within the department.
  • Communication with external stakeholders such as accounting service companies located in Barbados and Luxembourg.
  • Custodian of the maintenance of signatories and access to accounts.
  • Involvement in due diligence requests through the collation of required supporting information during the process of the identification of new business opportunities, M&A and group wide financing transactions.
  • Timely submission of all work to prevent adverse consequences for the listed company due to non‑compliance with the requirements of various external stakeholders.
